
Powerful Cleavers
Cleavers is one of my favorite little herbs. Aptly named for its ability to stick to things. It will cleave to you if you or anything else meanders close to the plant. This trait makes it easily identifiable. Cleavers gives off a smell similar to honey. This wild edible and wonderfully medicinal plant offers a powerful boost to our health.

Harvesting powerful cleavers vary depending on what your main purpose for harvesting is. If you are going to make an amazing health-packed soup using cleavers, it is best to harvest when the plant is young.
Long winters often bring about extra weight. Yah, perfectly designed when cleavers begins to grow. Cleavers makes its appearance in early spring. If you want to lose weight, throw some young cleavers in a soup. Spring is the perfect time to capitalize on the benefits of cleavers.
How to Use Powerful Cleavers
If you are going to make a tincture or dry the herb for medicinal purposes, it is best to harvest when the plant is beginning to flower. Typically, the powerful cleavers plant will flower anytime from May to September. If you harvest the plant early by cutting it ¾ the way down, it will regrow. Conveniently, harvesting the young herb in this manner in spring still allows for a late summer medicinal harvest.
Cleaver Coffee??
You can harvest cleavers’ seeds and lightly roast them to make an excellent coffee-like beverage. The taste is quite similar to coffee.
There are countless uses for this little herb. One being red dye. You can harvest red dye from the roots of cleavers.

Properties of Powerful Cleavers
The Lymphatic system gains advantage from cleavers. It cleanses our kidneys and helps eliminate water retention. This clever little herb can even help to treat kidney stones.
Cleavers is curative for the skin. Examples of its powerful ability include, but are not limited to, acne, psoriasis, eczema, abscesses, and boils
You had better watch out, circulatory system! Cleavers lowers blood pressure! Are you having trouble sleeping? Powerful cleavers can conquer insomnia, too!

Now, For the Science of My Favorite Little Plant
The Cleavers plant contains organic acids, flavonoids, tannins, fatty acids, glycoside asperuloside, gallotannic acid, and citric acid.
Aerial Parts
The Aerial parts of an herb consist of all the parts growing above the ground. The aerial parts of cleavers are useful for an abundance of ailments. The following paragraphs are examples of how we can capitalize on the benefits of cleavers.
Juice
The fresh cleavers plant needs to be liquified or blended into a pulp. You could use a blender or food processor for the preparation. This powerful cleavers’ juice is used to cleanse the lymphatic glands. Cleansed and healthy glands heal a plethora of health conditions. This juice may also be used as a diuretic. Diuretics release and excrete unproductive fluid. Powerful cleavers can assist in the healing of tonsillitis, glandular fever, as well as prostate complaints.
Infusion
An infusion is a highly concentrated “tea” made by soaking the herb in pure water. This infusion prepared from cleavers is less potent than the juice extracted from this herb. This infusion treats urinary complaints. A couple of examples of these complaints are gravel(stones) and cystitis. If a fever is at hand, you may find relief by simply having a drink of cleavers tea.
Tincture or Glycerin Preparation
The first thing you need to know is how to formulate a tincture preparation. A tincture preparation is a glycerin or alcohol-based infusion. A glycerin extract usually starts with an infusion prepared in distilled water on the stovetop. After most of the water is boiled off, the remaining concentrate is preserved with glycerin.
A tincture is made by a pre-measured amount of herb, which is soaked in alcohol for a few weeks to a few months, depending on the herb being used.
The tincture prepared from cleavers has the same uses as the infusion.
Compress Treatment
There are certain times when a compress may be necessary. The preparation of a compress is simple. The first step is to make a strong infusion of cleavers. Next, you saturate a cotton pad with the prepared infusion. Finally, you apply it to the affected areas. ( Note: You may need to wrap the compress with flannel or cotton fabric strips. Doing this ensures the compress remains in place. ) You can treat burn injuries, ulcers, grazes, and various skin inflammations with the prepared compress.
Topical Cream Preparation
Topical cream preparations of cleavers can offer a variety of health benefits. You can use the aerial parts of the herb to prepare a cream. Psoriasis benefits from creams made from cleavers.
Hair Rinse Infusion

You should apply this infusion prepared from cleavers to your hair and scalp. Dandruff and scalp scaling respond well to a cleavers-infused rinse. For best results, regularly wash your hair and scalp with the infusion.
